Feb 21, 2014 · carburetor on 8N- 1952 ford. I need some advice on how to adjust the jets on my ford tractor's carburetor. I hired a mechanic to rebuild it and now it runs worse than before the rebuild. I know that it is too rich- hard to start and just barely runs after starting- pouring out dark smoke-eventually it evens out but runs faster than it should on ...I'm looking for someone to tell me how to adjust the carburetor on my dads 8N. I hope thats what wrong. It just dont have much pull power. When it started loosing power, the carburetor was the first thing dad messed with. Then we changed the spark plugs and wires. Then the distributor cap. Now we are back to the carburetor.According to the service manual, the float should be set at 1 5/16. To check it, I set the carb upside down and measured from the bottom of the top half of the carb to the bottom of the float. The service manual illustration shows the float nice and level, but mine is probably 1/16" different between the front and the back.It is running on the carb off my 9N which runs fine with it on there. I haven't touched the adjustments.
