The way I do it is to fill it up, start it and let it warm up, then with it running and the cap still off I open up the drain bolt on the bottom of the water pump and let some drain out. Then kill it and fill it back up and install the cap.

Just let the truck idle and warm up to 180 degrees or 200 with the radiator cap off. Basically when you take the coolant out air gets in the motor. When you refill and let run the thermostats open at 180 degrees. Then the coolant goes through the motor and pushs the air out.
