For support companies i go with logistics, engineers, anti air, artillery. It's expensive but by the time you get mechanized you should have the industry for that build. Try it with rocket artillery. 10 inf 20 widths are a good base infantry division. You dont really need the radios on those. Recon is more useful on them. Their main roll is simply to hold the line.
