The SKS (Samozaryadny Karabin sistemy Simonova, Self-loading Carbine of (the) Simonov system) rifle is a Soviet semi-automatic rifle designed in 1945 by Sergei Gavrilovich Simonov.It was a widely exported weapon, with many foreign copies including the Chinese Type 56 Carbine. Most variants of the SKS have been widely exported onto civilian markets as military surplus rifles.Luckliy have no personal experience with this type of feed issue with any of the 30 or so sks variants I have owned. But this issue has been the topic of several threads in just the past year or two. Certainly in this forum. But, IIRC, it has been addressed on gunboards.com (sks/ak subforum) and akfiles.com (svt/sks/orphan subforum) as well.

It duplicates the factory bolts in the SKS "D" & "M" models (No! It does no allow for AK mag use simply by doing this). I've done the mod on most of my SKS's...there is NO downside to it, and, it pretty well helps get the SKS to function a little more modernly.The example here was close at hand. As this is a 7.62 x 39, the AK platform offered some of the most well-built magazines in existence. The SKS mag has a leg that extends forward of the front of the magazine. By addressing the way an AK mag connects, it is possible to get a magazine that can rock into place and rock out of place.
